Soy
Why
- It's a good replacement for meals that would normally contain red meat.
- Soybeans contain large amounts of isoflavones, such as genistein which is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis. Uncontrolled angiogenesis is considered as a key step in cancer growth, invasion, and metastasis (spread to other body parts).
- Studies have revealed that high consumption of soy products is associated with low incidences of hormone-dependent cancers, including breast and prostate cancer.
How to consume
- Edamame. Easily obtainable in the frozen section of a grocery store.
- Tofu. Lots of ways to eat this as-is or cooked as a great alternative to meat for protein.
- Tempeh. Similar to tofu, there's no shortage of ways to prepare this.
- Soy milk. Can be used as a dairy replacement for smoothies, lattes, etc.
